The film may be less abjectly grim than originally anticipated will likely be received as something of a relief to many fans (and to those who appreciate comments like James Wan’s claim that Aquaman will be “fun”, signaling that not all upcoming DCEU films will be “dark superhero movies”), such Star Trek Beyond 2016 rumors may also draw backlash from those fans who like the so-called “Snyderverse” darkness of Batman V Superman and feel it should be applied to historically violent characters like Joker and Quinn. Time will tell whether Suicide Squad ends up being any “lighter” (for better or worse), but it’s worth noting that Suicide Squad was already set to be the first directorial effort by hard-action specialist Ayer (End of Watch, Fury) to not carry an R-rating.
Three men were seriously injured. Again, Larry disobeyed orders, even though he did it for the right reason this time. He’s given six months suspension without pay. Larry quits, storms out. (I think a few minutes might be missing here, too.) Mary is pissed that Larry broke his promise and Ed is in the hospital because of it, and she breaks up with him by phone. He finds men inside, but Mary is trapped and water is rising. Larry suggests cutting the hull from within and without, and soon everyone is saved.
The story is rote for its time, and definitely quaint by today’s standards. But it’s like hating a child’s fiction. Yeah. The actors are all charming and believable. The action, as such, is fairly engaging. The no-budget effects are interesting. (Smoke is all you need!) It’s even a little provocative.
