It will only happen: you go for a mild ulcer surgery at the hospital, your anesthesia lasts more than 200 years! It happens to the owner of the Happy Carrot Health Food Store in Manhattan, Miles Monroe (played by Woody Allen) directed by himself in the comic science fiction parody “Sleeper” (1973). After two centuries he awakes from his frozen sleeping in a world that he – of course – barely recognize. And his life is in immediate danger. Members of a secret and forbidden movement, composed of scientists, have thawed him because they want to let his relief he infiltrate the government on legs periodically Aires Project. The America of the 23th century is in fact run by a dictator. Miles is the only one whose hd quality movies dvd quality biometric identity is not yet registered, and which therefore may safely spy.
Nevertheless, Miles goes quickly and error must disguise himself as a robot butler, widely used in 2173, to go unnoticed. It is delivered by poet and socialite Luna Schlosser (Diane Keaton), but which is not very happy about her new helper in the household. Because they did not find his head really aesthetically pleasing, she wants to replace it, but that leaves Miles, of course, did not happen. He escapes and tells her how the fork in the stem. Because Luna is likely to give him, there is no choice but to abduct her. Will he Luna to make it clear that totalitarianism is wrong?
“Sleeper” is a madcap comedy, with successful slapstick elements, supported by jazzy music (with Allen on clarinet). Especially in the house of Luna is blown laughter, as he naturally his position as robot should continue to play, but obviously can not handle the futuristic kitchen. Also at the party which Luna gives it made it difficult, as a sphere with special characteristics – it is a cross between a party drug and an aphrodisiac – it takes almost from his role. In Allen’s vision of the distant future, our sex life is apparently quite subject to change. If you want to have sex with you two of you should be in a Orgasmatron (and it’s over in a flash, no pun intended). But, if we are to believe Luna, Sex Couple is the exception rather than the rule (“We would’ve had sex, but there were not enough people,” she says at one point against a guest). Besides slapstick contains ‘Sleeper’ countless funny one-liners and visual jokes. Kudos to the production design!
Diane Keaton delivers a fine acting performance in her one of her first collaborations with Woody Allen. Her change of a superficial aunt in a rebel who knows what she is fighting is convincing. But Allen himself is also on a roll and can compete with the best actors in the slapstick genre. “Sleeper” is not always consistent and does contain a few fragments that add nothing of substance, but the film is good for one and a half hours of entertainment. Bet you this film still remember before you check into the hospital for surgery?
